High School Tennis Team Compete in First Tournament of the Season

Sixteen high school tennis players competed in their first tournament of the 2017 season in a junior varsity meet hosted by Uvalde on February 10th. Coach Jerry Radicke and Coach Beth Speer were pleased with the team’s debut effort that earned them the overall third place trophy at the end of the day. In the singles category, Diego Esquivel took second place and Atlee McGuire finished in 6th place. For the girls, McKaia Barnes won the consolation award. Chanice Rattler finished in seventh place. In boys’ doubles, the team of Elias Alardin and Brandon Capeheart won the consolation medals. Gabby Manchaca and Bethany Keeney claimed second place in the girls’ 1 doubles while Emily Cortez and Sabrina Maltos teamed up to win first in the girls 2 doubles division. In the 2 mixed doubles, Nathalia Figueroa-Silva and Vincent Zavala took third place. In the 1 mixed doubles, it was an all Knippa finals affair with the team of Dylan DeLeon and Kloe Martinez winning first place over second place finishers Lizandra Figueroa-Silva and Jason Samarripa. In the final standings, Eagle Pass took the first place team award and Del Rio won second place award ahead of the KHS third place finish. Other teams in the meet included Uvalde, Pearsall, Dilley, Sabinal, D’Hanis, and San Antonio Warren. KHS will be back in action again this weekend in a varsity meet hosted by Uvalde.
